Liverpool have turned down a fresh verbal approach from Inter Milan for midfielder Curtis Jones, with the club standing firm over his valuation.
The Italian giants submitted a new proposal within the last 24 hours, offering a package valued at approximately €25 million, equivalent to around £21 million.
That bid was immediately rejected by Liverpool, who consider the offer well below what the academy graduate is worth in the current transfer market.
Prominent journalists Fabrizio Romano and Paul Joyce both confirmed there is still no agreement between the two clubs at this stage of negotiations.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has since revealed that Inter’s persistent contact has actually caused Liverpool’s position to harden rather than soften over recent days.
Inter framed their latest approach as an informal conversation rather than a formal or written offer, asking whether a deal could be reached around the €25 million mark.
Ben Jacobs posted the following update: “Liverpool made it clear no sale at this price, especially given numbers other midfielders are expected to be sold for this summer.”
Jacobs also confirmed that Liverpool are willing to take the situation to its conclusion, adding: “Liverpool are prepared to keep Jones unless a suitable bid arises, even if that means losing him on a free next summer.”
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Jones remains in good standing at Anfield with no issues raised about his conduct or commitment.
As Jacobs noted: “Liverpool have never had concerns about Jones’ attitude or professionalism despite Inter reapproaching the club, and growing interest elsewhere.”
Should Jones impress new manager Andoni Iraola during pre-season and throughout the campaign, Liverpool could yet reopen discussions over a new contract extension.
Jacobs confirmed this possibility, writing: “If that happens, and he impresses Andoni Iraola, they could yet decide to engage in new contract talks.”
Jones has made 228 senior appearances for Liverpool since graduating from the academy, contributing 22 goals and 25 assists across a variety of midfield roles.
His versatility to operate as a number eight, a deeper midfielder or an advanced playmaker has made him a consistently valuable option for successive managers at the club.
At 25 years old, Jones is entering what are widely considered the peak years of a midfielder’s career, further strengthening Liverpool’s resolve to demand a premium fee.
Inter Milan must significantly increase their offer if they hold any serious hope of signing Curtis Jones before the summer transfer window closes.
