Lucas Bergvall Tells Tottenham Hotspur He Wants To Leave The Club This Summer

Lucas Bergvall has informed Tottenham Hotspur that he wants to leave the club this summer, sending shockwaves through the north London outfit.

The 20-year-old Sweden international only joined Spurs from Djurgarden in 2024 for a fee of £8.5million, making his departure request all the more surprising.

Bergvall struggled to nail down a regular starting spot during the latter stages of the 2025/26 season, frequently appearing as a second-half substitute under Roberto De Zerbi.

The Athletic report that the young midfielder is seeking a fresh start elsewhere, with his desire to move becoming clear during the ongoing 2026 World Cup in North America.

Bergvall is currently representing Sweden at the tournament, and it appears the break has given him time to reflect on his situation at Spurs.

Chelsea and Aston Villa had previously registered interest in the midfielder, though Tottenham were firmly against selling him at that stage and wanted to keep him.

It remains to be seen whether either Chelsea or Aston Villa are still monitoring Bergvall’s situation following his public desire to leave the club.

Any transfer for Bergvall is unlikely to come cheap, given his contract runs until 2031 and his current market value stands at around £52million.

However, with the player keen on an exit, potential suitors may be able to negotiate that valuation down somewhat in pursuit of a deal.

Tottenham’s need for midfield reinforcements has become increasingly urgent after a deeply troubling 2025/26 Premier League campaign for the club.

The Lilywhites finished 17th in the Premier League standings last term, narrowly avoiding relegation to the Championship on the final day with a 1-0 win over Everton.

Spurs have been linked with a number of highly-rated midfielders this summer, including Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, as De Zerbi looks to reshape the squad.

The club’s new head coach is said to be actively seeking improvements across the board as he prepares for his first full season in charge at Tottenham Hotspur.

Bergvall’s transfer bombshell adds further complexity to what is already shaping up to be a busy and difficult summer window for Spurs.
