Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers, with Declan Rice playing a key role in convincing him to move.
Mikel Arteta’s side have made the 23-year-old playmaker a top priority as they look to strengthen their squad for another Champions League challenge.
Rice has reportedly been working on Rogers during England’s World Cup campaign, with the pair spending time together on international duty.
Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke are also in the England camp and are said to be part of the Gunners’ recruitment effort.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are using their Three Lions contingent to persuade Rogers that the Emirates Stadium is the right destination this summer.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been mentioned as clubs willing to discuss a deal in the region of £85million for the Villa star.
Aston Villa, however, have made it clear that Rogers is central to their plans as they prepare for a return to the Champions League next season.
Unai Emery’s side are also aware of the rising market value of midfielders and must factor in a 20 per cent sell-on clause agreed with Middlesbrough when Rogers left for Villa Park.
Reports suggest Rogers is open to a move and will consider what the Premier League champions can put on the table before making any decision.
Arteta is said to want four or five quality signings this summer as Arsenal look to go one better and win the Champions League after falling short in recent campaigns.
Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez is also admired by the Gunners, with sporting director Andrea Berta knowing the Argentine well after signing him at Atletico from Manchester City.
Arsenal have also been offered Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, and Alex Scott has been linked with a move to north London as well.
Outgoings will also shape Arsenal’s transfer business, with Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Martinelli all linked with departures this summer.
Question marks also remain over Ethan Nwaneri’s long-term future at the club as Arteta reshapes his squad ahead of a major push for European glory.
