Arsenal Handed Extra Incentive To Sign Morgan Rogers Before Aston Villa Clash

Arsenal hold significant interest in Aston Villa and England midfielder Morgan Rogers, with manager Mikel Arteta understood to be a strong admirer of the 23-year-old.

Rogers has been identified as a potential marquee addition for the Premier League title winners this summer, as Arsenal look to build on their championship success.

The Gunners have now been handed an additional reason to push through a deal quickly, beyond the usual benefits of pre-season preparation and early acclimatisation.

The Premier League have released their fixtures for the 2026/27 season, and Arsenal will open their campaign at the Emirates Stadium against newly promoted Coventry City.

The Gunners will also close the season at home in North London, raising hopes among supporters of witnessing a title lift inside their own ground for the very first time.

However, it is matchday two that adds real urgency to the pursuit of Rogers, with Arsenal set to travel to Villa Park on the weekend of August 29 to face Unai Emery’s side.

The fixture carries extra edge after Villa beat Arsenal in last season’s corresponding meeting, with Emi Buendia scoring with what was effectively the last kick of the game.

That result dealt a serious blow to Arsenal’s title hopes at the time while simultaneously propelling Villa firmly into the championship conversation.

Rogers has never scored or assisted against Arsenal, and completing a transfer before that Villa Park fixture would guarantee that record holds for at least the foreseeable future.

The situation draws comparisons to Eberechi Eze, who played for Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener away at Chelsea before completing his £63.5 million move to North London, a deal partly prompted by Kai Havertz’s injury.

In Rogers’ case, Arsenal’s desire to finalise a deal early is already present, and stripping Aston Villa of one of their most dangerous attacking threats ahead of that second-weekend fixture only strengthens the motivation further.

Any deal is expected to cost a substantial fee, with Aston Villa hoping to secure close to £100 million for the sale of their prized midfielder.
