Liverpool Set To Return With Improved Bid After RB Leipzig Reject €100m Yan Diomande Offer

Liverpool saw an opening bid worth close to €100 million rejected by RB Leipzig for teenage winger Yan Diomande on Thursday.

The initial package was structured as a guaranteed €90 million up front, with a further €10 million in performance-related add-ons.

Sky Sports reporter Philipp Hinze confirmed the offer, noting that Leipzig had yet to formally respond but were widely expected to turn it down.

New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has identified Diomande as the ideal long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, who departed Anfield at the end of last season.

The Reds have already held productive background talks over the player’s personal terms and expect no complications on Diomande’s side if a deal with Leipzig can be reached.

Leipzig moved swiftly to reject the approach, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano subsequently confirming the German club’s position on the matter.

The Bundesliga club is determined to keep the reigning Bundesliga Rookie of the Season at Red Bull Arena for at least one more season and has plans to offer him an improved contract with a substantial salary increase.

Romano reported that Leipzig are holding out for a fee closer to €120 million, with the valuation potentially rising further based on Diomande’s performances for the Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup.

Leipzig also expect French champions PSG and other elite European clubs to enter the running, raising the prospect of a multi-club bidding war for the young attacker.

Sky Germany reports that Liverpool are not backing down and intend to return with an improved offer in the near future to test Leipzig’s resolve.

The pursuit raises serious questions about whether Liverpool are prepared to shatter their transfer record once again following recent major investments in the squad.

Following mega-deals for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, spending over €100 million on a teenager would represent a remarkable statement of intent from the club.

This level of spending was once considered uncharacteristic of Liverpool, but under Richard Hughes last summer, the club broke its transfer record twice in succession.

The coming days are likely to prove decisive as Liverpool weigh their options and consider how far they are willing to go to land their primary target.
