San Jose Earthquakes Extend Bruce Arena’s Contract Through The 2028-29 MLS Season

The San Jose Earthquakes have secured Bruce Arena’s future with the club, signing the veteran coach to a new contract through the 2028-29 MLS season.

The announcement came on Monday, confirming Arena’s continued role at the helm of a side that has been one of the league’s most impressive stories this year.

Arena, the former U.S. men’s national team coach, has been credited with engineering a remarkable turnaround since taking charge before last season.

San Jose currently holds a 10-3-2 record this season, leaving them tied for the most points in the Western Conference at the break for the World Cup.

The Earthquakes won nine of their first ten games to open the campaign, the best start in franchise history by any measure.

They need just one win from their remaining 19 games to match last season’s entire regular-season points total, underlining just how dramatically the club has improved.

Five more wins would represent the highest single-season total for the Quakes since they claimed the Supporters’ Shield back in 2012.

Earthquakes managing partner John Fisher expressed his delight at securing Arena’s long-term commitment to the project in San Jose.

“We are proud to have Bruce leading our club,” Fisher said. “He has done an outstanding job rebuilding this team and getting us positioned amongst the top teams in MLS this season.”

Fisher added that Arena had not only built a competitive squad capable of challenging for the playoffs immediately, but had also laid the foundations for sustainable, long-term success.

“We are excited to keep Bruce in San Jose for the foreseeable future,” Fisher said, emphasising the club’s belief in Arena’s vision for the programme.

Arena himself spoke warmly about his experience with the club and expressed genuine enthusiasm for continuing the work already underway.

“I have enjoyed my time here in San Jose, and I am excited to continue to see this team improve and compete at the highest level in MLS,” Arena said.

“We have a great core group of players here and a devoted fan base that has treated me very well from the start,” he added.

Arena’s broader coaching legacy in American soccer is well established, having guided the U.S. men’s national team to two World Cup appearances, including a memorable run to the quarterfinals in 2002.

Across his club career, which has included stints with D.C. United, the New York Red Bulls, the Los Angeles Galaxy, and the New England Revolution, Arena has won five MLS Cups and a league-record 283 regular-season games.
