Nottingham Forest are reportedly making a move to sign Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira, who appears set to leave the Emirates Stadium permanently this summer.
The Portuguese playmaker spent time on loan at Hamburg in the Bundesliga, where he caught the attention of clubs with his performances in Germany.
Hamburg had been keen to keep Vieira on a permanent basis, but Forest have now entered the picture with an offer of their own, according to Fussball Transfers.
Vieira initially showed promise after joining Arsenal, but he struggled to break into the first team and secure regular playing time under Mikel Arteta.
The midfielder went back to former club Porto on loan before then earning another temporary move to Hamburg, where he rebuilt his confidence and form.
His performances in the Bundesliga demonstrated he still has plenty to offer at the top level, making permanent interest from both Hamburg and Forest easy to understand.
Arsenal are expected to make several sales this summer as Arteta fine-tunes a squad that just won the Premier League title and reached the Champions League final.
Offloading players like Vieira and Reiss Nelson, who have been out on loan, makes significant financial sense as the Gunners look to raise funds while pursuing new signings.
Arsenal are also reportedly close to selling Leandro Trossard to Besiktas, with talks understood to be advancing, while doubts remain over Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Ben White.
The north London club is expected to spend heavily this summer, with Fabrizio Romano linking Arsenal with as many as four new attacking signings to address weaknesses in that department.
Romano has posted about Arsenal looking at the likes of Bradley Barcola and Morgan Rogers, with Leicester City’s Jeremy Monga also mentioned as a separate deal that is advancing.
Romano also reported that Arsenal have made an initial approach for Christos Tzolis as a potential new winger, with contacts started on both the player and club side.
For Fabio Vieira, a move to Nottingham Forest could represent the fresh start he needs to finally fulfil the potential that convinced Arsenal to sign him in the first place.
