My new favorite golf outfit is a refreshingly great value

It’s no secret that everything is more expensive these days, but somehow I still feel surprised when I see the price of some golf gear. A single three-piece outfit — top, bottom, shoes — can set you back several hundred dollars. That’s wild! Even if you know what you’re buying is a quality item worth the investment, the sticker shock still stings.

That’s why it was so refreshing to try some of the latest gear from Skechers. The ubiquitous brand released its first pair of golf shoes more than a decade ago and has been enjoying some recent buzz thanks to their star PGA Tour ambassador Matt Fitzpatrick. But I’ve never worn an item from the Skechers golf apparel line, which first launched in 2017. Much to my delight, that finally changed last week.

What I loved about Skechers golf apparel

The look

I tested a full outfit of Skechers apparel for my recent round: polo (Skechers GO DRI Swift Women’s Sleeveless Golf Polo Shirt), skort (Skechers GO FLEX Pleated Women’s 16″ Golf Skort) and shoes (Skechers Flow Slip-ins Women’s Spikeless Golf Shoes). I loved the look right away. The polo has attractive contrast piping on the collar and a flattering V-neck — no buttons!

The skort was a standout, with a clean, flat front and subtle pleats in the back. The double-layer waist offered compression and support, and the length was just right — not too short, not too long. My only critique would be the lack of external pockets, but I actually got used to using the attached liner short pocket pretty quickly.

The shoes were my first-ever slip-ins, and what a revelation! Every shoe needs this! They were comfortable right out of the box and I really liked the neutral color pattern. They’ll go with everything, and the fact that they’re spikeless means I’ll be wearing them everywhere off the course too.

The performance

As a Phoenix resident, I play frequently in the heat, so there was probably no better time than last week to test the polo’s “Go-DRI” credibility. The mercury reached 110 degrees during my round, and I’m happy to report that the polo passed the test. It’s stretchy and lightweight, and felt great throughout the day.

On the skort front, the high-waisted design helped my polo stay tucked in all day without issue. The shoes were comfy and kept me blister-free. A TPU overlay helped them stay clean too.

The price

The most impressive thing about these Skechers pieces is undoubtedly the price. Given the quality of the fabrics, these items could sell for probably twice their listed retail prices. But at just $49 for the skort, $39 for the polo and $109.99 for the shoes, the entire outfit tallies up to less than $200. That’s serious value, especially given the top-notch performance and fit. It’s easily my new favorite outfit.

Needless to say, the next time I’m in the market for a new golf ensemble that doesn’t break the bank, I know just where to look.
