Manchester City See £120m Bid Rejected As Elliot Anderson Transfer Saga Intensifies

Manchester City have had a second offer for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson rejected as talks continue to drag into a prolonged summer standoff.

City submitted an improved verbal proposal in their bid to land the highly-rated 23-year-old England international, who has emerged as a top summer priority.

The offer consisted of a £106 million guaranteed fee up front, with add-ons capable of pushing the total package beyond £120 million in overall value.

Nottingham Forest, however, swiftly dismissed the proposal and are firmly holding out for a flat, fixed fee of £120 million or more guaranteed from the outset.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the details, reporting that Forest want the full amount secured without reliance on performance-related add-ons or conditional payments.

Forest’s resolve is further strengthened by their awareness of serious interest from Manchester United, giving them significant leverage in any negotiations.

Despite the latest rejection, Manchester City are said to remain deeply committed to completing the deal and are expected to return to the table shortly.

New City manager Enzo Maresca has reportedly identified Anderson as a central figure in his tactical plans, making the England international a priority signing this window.

City have also kept alternatives in mind, with Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali listed among the options should a deal for Anderson ultimately collapse.

If the transfer does get over the line at Forest’s valuation, Anderson would rewrite Premier League transfer history in spectacular fashion.

A guaranteed fee exceeding £120 million would place him second on the all-time Premier League spending list, behind only Alexander Isak’s £125 million move to Liverpool in 2025.

The deal would also see Anderson surpass Enzo Fernandez’s £121 million Chelsea transfer and Florian Wirtz’s £116.5 million switch to Liverpool as one of the costliest moves in English football history.

Anderson would simultaneously become the most expensive British player of all time, eclipsing Declan Rice’s £105 million move from West Ham to Arsenal back in 2023.

With both clubs standing firm on their respective positions, all eyes are now on Manchester City to see whether they are willing to meet Forest’s demanding and unwavering price tag.
