Ben Davies has signed a new one-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur, keeping the veteran Welsh defender at the club ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 33-year-old was set to become a free agent at the end of June, but Spurs moved to retain his services and Davies has agreed to remain at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Davies has been at the north London club since 2014, when he joined from Swansea City and established himself as a firm fan favourite over the years.
The defender has made 363 appearances for Tottenham and was part of the squad that lifted the Europa League trophy last season, cementing his legacy at the club.
His new deal comes after a torrid 2025/26 campaign in which Davies managed just five appearances due to a combination of a hamstring problem and a horrific ankle injury.
The ankle injury, suffered during a 2-1 defeat against West Ham in mid-January, required two surgeries and ruled him out for the remainder of the season, causing him to miss 22 matches.
Speaking to the club’s official website after signing his new deal, Davies said: “Tottenham Hotspur really feels like home. It’s been a huge part of my football journey and I’m grateful for what the club has given me so far in my career.”
Davies also acknowledged how difficult it was to watch from the sidelines, adding: “It’s been difficult over the past few months, not being able to help the team on the pitch in some tough moments due to injury. So I tried to help the boys off it as much as I could, being a voice in the dressing room and around the group, contributing in any way I could.”
He finished by declaring his commitment to the cause, stating: “My heart’s on my sleeve for this club and I’ll give everything for it.”
Manager Roberto De Zerbi, appointed in March, specifically name-checked Davies among the players who helped Tottenham survive relegation at the end of last season.
Speaking after the 1-0 win against Everton that secured the club’s Premier League status, De Zerbi praised several squad members by name, including Davies, who attended the post-match celebrations at the Lodge.
De Zerbi said: “Dragusin. Dragusin was top because he didn’t play, but he was always positive inside the dressing room. Inside the pitch. Bentancur. Because Bentancur, when he came back from the injury, he wanted to play.”
The manager continued: “Joao Palhinha, because at the beginning of my time, he didn’t play in Sunderland, here with Brighton and Wolverhampton. Ben Davies. Yesterday, he came to the Lodge with us.”
De Zerbi has made a strong start at Spurs, winning three and drawing two of his seven matches in charge, with Davies’ renewed presence expected to strengthen the dressing room culture as the club looks to rebuild next season.
