Atletico Madrid have issued a scathing social media response after Real Madrid made a formal offer of 150 million euros for striker Julian Alvarez.
Real Madrid confirmed the approach in an official statement published on their website following a meeting of their Board of Directors earlier today.
The statement read: “Real Madrid C. F. announces that, following the meeting of the Board of Directors held today, it has made an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atlético de Madrid for the federative rights of the player Julián Álvarez.”
Real Madrid also acknowledged that Atletico Madrid had rejected the offer, citing the player’s release clause as the basis for their refusal.
Their statement added that Atletico Madrid had expressed gratitude for the proposal, which was made within the framework of good relations between the two clubs.
However, Atletico Madrid wasted no time in firing back, disputing the framing of their response and denying any sense of appreciation for the approach.
Atletico Madrid wrote on X: “You may have confused politeness with gratitude, but just to be clear: we don’t thank you for anything. We are neither considering nor evaluating any offer for Julián.”
The post also took a swipe at Real Madrid’s tone, referencing a video of the Pope and mocking their rivals with the line: “How could we not get along, when you make us laugh even more than FC Barcelona?”
Atletico Madrid followed up with a second post on X, urging Real Madrid to stop signing players from their academy, further intensifying the public war of words between the two clubs.
The explosive exchange has placed significant strain on the relationship between the two Madrid clubs, and it is abundantly clear that Alvarez is not available for transfer this summer.
Alvarez had also attracted interest from Barcelona, though the Spanish champions have not reached any agreement with Atletico Madrid over a potential move for the striker.
Arsenal were also among the clubs monitoring the 26-year-old World Cup winner, though Atletico’s response appears to have shut down any realistic path to a departure.
Florentino Perez had previously indicated his intention to make a major signing following presidential elections, and the move for Alvarez was seen as Real Madrid acting on that promise.
Despite the clear need for attacking reinforcements at Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid’s public and pointed rejection has firmly closed the door on any deal for Julian Alvarez.
