The England national team have just shared a ‘transfer policy’ for players in the squad, which could indirectly benefit Aston Villa.
England are among the favourites for the World Cup, and head coach Thomas Tuchel has a huge responsibility on his shoulders to improve on previous tournaments or even deliver a second world title in North America. As a result, he has recently imposed a ‘transfer policy’ for any player in his squad, as reported by Birmingham Mail.
“I would not like it (transfer issues) on a minus one (the day before games) and a matchday. That’s the policy. And everything else, if it is quietly done, privately done, done efficiently, we are always happy to help to have clarity around the player. I think the best we can have is clarity.”
The German boss appears concerned that some players, especially those in high demand this summer, may struggle to focus fully on the World Cup campaign. Tuchel believes any transfer-related matters should be resolved sooner rather than later.
“If anyone has the chance to complete a change of club and a transfer, we will not stand in the way but it has to align, of course, with our schedule and our goals, which is to be focused and prepare for matches.”
The former PSG and Chelsea manager then explained how unresolved transfer situations, ideally settled before June 15, could become a distraction for players.
“So, the question would be, how much to worry? If it would be possible to say ‘You don’t deal with that now’, the telephone would still blow up. How are we going to control that? So it is more the other way around.
“I am always there to help, I am always there to calm things down. We should more help them to have their own environment where they can handle the distraction, they can dive in, they can concentrate, they can do the most to fulfil their role that we have for them.
“Because I can see, of course, the distraction is clubs are fighting for you, want to sign you and sporting directors, agents and coaches are trying to get you on the phone; of course it is a distraction but it is just also reality.
“We will always recommend the player to take a decision before a tournament starts, as early as possible and then go with the decision.”
Nevertheless, Tuchel is aware that such matters are often difficult to control given how dynamic the transfer market can be. He simply hopes everything can proceed smoothly with minimal distractions.
After reaching the semi-finals in Russia 2018 and finishing as runners-up in two consecutive European Championships under Gareth Southgate, England are expected to go even further this time, with many believing they can reach the final and potentially lift the trophy.
Tuchel appears to be the right profile to lead them to that long-awaited success. He is an elite manager with a Champions League title to his name after guiding Chelsea to glory in 2021.
This policy introduced by the Three Lions boss could have an impact on Aston Villa’s transfer plans. The club could find itself involved in two major transfer sagas this summer.
The first is undoubtedly Morgan Rogers. He is one of the most sought-after players in the current transfer window, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and PSG all reportedly interested. Villa will strive to keep him, especially with his contract running until 2031.
However, pressure to comply with financial regulations could potentially alter the club’s stance, particularly if one of his suitors is willing to meet the reported £80 million valuation.
Another name is Marcus Rashford. The Manchester United loanee remains caught in the middle of Barcelona’s complicated transfer plans. Rashford, who impressed with 14 goals and 14 assists last season, is still hoping to secure a permanent move to the Catalan giants.
Unfortunately for the England international, Barcelona do not appear willing to pursue the straightforward option of signing him outright. Instead, they are reportedly considering another loan arrangement with various clauses while also prioritising a big-money move for Anthony Gordon.
If the representatives of players such as Rogers and Rashford are willing to resolve their futures quickly in line with Tuchel’s recommendations, Aston Villa could benefit significantly.
Whether Rogers stays or departs, an early decision would allow the club to plan more effectively for the remainder of the transfer window. Likewise, if Rashford decides to return to Villa Park sooner rather than later, it would provide another boost for Unai Emery’s side as they prepare for the new season.
