Xabi Alonso Set To Decide Futures Of Seven Chelsea Players Worth Combined £130m

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso faces a busy summer as he weighs up the futures of seven players who were sent out on loan during the recently concluded 2025/26 season.

The seven players in question cost the club close to £130million in combined transfer fees, not including add-ons, making the decisions surrounding them significant for the club’s finances.

Alonso, who is newly appointed at Stamford Bridge, will hold countless meetings with the club’s sporting directors about recruitment over the coming weeks and months.

Several first-team players are expected to be signed during the upcoming summer window, while many others are anticipated to depart the club.

Each of the seven loanees now faces a critical summer, with some hoping to impress Alonso enough to earn a place in his squad and others expected to move on permanently.

Defender Axel Disasi spent the second half of the season on loan at West Ham United, where he was unable to prevent the Hammers from being relegated from the Premier League.

Despite the team’s struggles, the 28-year-old Frenchman and former AS Monaco defender performed at a high level individually and emerged from the experience with his personal reputation intact.

There are reported noises from Disasi’s entourage about interest from clubs across Europe, though Chelsea are expected to look to move him on rather than reintegrate him into the first team.

Teenager Kendry Paez, 19, joined River Plate on loan midway through the season after a spell at Strasbourg, but the Ecuador international managed fewer than 500 minutes of action in Argentina.

Paez will be hoping to catch Alonso’s eye during the upcoming World Cup, with the Chelsea boss also keeping tabs on Ecuador club and international teammate Moises Caicedo.

Some suggestions have emerged that Paez, despite his exciting talent, may still be too raw for first-team football at Stamford Bridge, making another loan spell a likely outcome for the youngster.

Ivorian striker David Datro Fofana had spells at Fatih Karagumruk and Strasbourg during the 2025/26 campaign after Chelsea repeatedly struggled to offload him on a permanent basis in previous windows.

Fofana signed for Chelsea for a fee believed to be around £10million in January 2023 and has featured just four times for the club’s first team across three and a half years at Stamford Bridge.

The 23-year-old is expected to be sold this summer for a minimal fee as Chelsea look to finally move him on and clear space within their squad ahead of Alonso’s first full season in charge.
