Ollie Watkins Backs Arsenal Target Morgan Rogers As A Player Who “Can Create Things From Nothing”

Arsenal have identified Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers as a priority summer transfer target, with the club keen to bolster their squad ahead of next season.

Ollie Watkins has provided a glowing endorsement of Rogers, describing the midfielder as someone capable of producing moments of genuine quality under pressure.

Watkins has shared the pitch with Rogers on 120 occasions for club and country, making him one of the best-placed players to assess his qualities as a footballer.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, Watkins revealed he actively encourages teammates to get the ball to Rogers during matches, highlighting his trust in the player.

“I always say to him, or sometimes I say to the boys, like, ‘boys, look for Morgan, give him the ball,'” Watkins said during the interview.

“Because I know if Morgan gets the ball, he’s going to look for me. So I’m saying: ‘get the ball to Morgan.'”

Watkins was also keen to stress that his admiration for Rogers extends well beyond any personal benefit he gains from their partnership on the pitch.

“But not only that, not selfishly because of me, but because he’s a player that can create things from nothing, you know, he’s very talented,” Watkins added.

“He’s always going to look forward, and he’s probably not going to just get the ball and play it backwards,” the striker continued, underlining Rogers’ attacking instincts.

Watkins also explained that the chemistry he shares with Rogers did not develop overnight, but was instead built through time spent together away from football.

“I think for a start, it definitely comes off the pitch, so it does help, the more time you can spend with each other, and sit down, just have lunch together,” he said.

Both players are currently part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad selected for the World Cup, meaning their combined appearances tally could continue to climb this summer.

Arsenal will be hoping that any further international chemistry does not translate into another season together wearing Aston Villa shirts.

“I’m close with Morgan, and since he’s come in, really, we’ve always been quite tight, and I think it reflects on the pitch,” Watkins said, describing their strong bond.

“We’re always working hard together. Whenever he gets the ball, he’s always looking for me, and vice versa,” he added, outlining the mutual understanding they have developed.

Arsenal are Premier League champions and will be looking to strengthen their squad as they prepare to defend that title during the 2026/27 campaign.
