Martin Odegaard Vows To Stay At Arsenal For “Many Years” As Gunners Contact Marco Carnesecchi’s Agent

Arsenal are preparing for their Premier League title defence after a weekend that brought both heartbreak and celebration in equal measure.

The Gunners suffered a painful Champions League final defeat to PSG on penalties in Budapest, only to lift spirits with a trophy parade on Sunday marking their first league title in 22 years.

Manager Mikel Arteta now turns his attention to next season, knowing that rivals will be working hard to close the gap on his side.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool are all expected to undergo changes in management, with Liverpool having dismissed Arne Slot on Saturday ahead of a new era.

Manchester United could also mount a stronger challenge after appointing Michael Carrick to the manager’s role on a permanent basis.

Arteta is expected to both strengthen his squad and oversee a number of departures before the new campaign gets underway.

On the transfer front, Arsenal are reportedly interested in Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi and may move to sign the 25-year-old this summer.

Carnesecchi recorded 17 clean sheets last season as Atalanta finished seventh in Serie A, and the Italian club have placed a reported £35million valuation on him.

The Gunners are understood to have contacted Carnesecchi’s agent, Alessandro Lucci, who also represents Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori.

Any deal could hinge on whether Carnesecchi is willing to accept a backup role behind current first-choice goalkeeper David Raya at the club.

The potential signing would also raise questions over second-choice keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future, though both players could reportedly compete for the understudy position.

Captain Martin Odegaard has meanwhile moved to reassure supporters about his own future, insisting he wants to remain at Arsenal for many years to come.

Odegaard struggled with both form and fitness throughout the season but spoke positively after the Champions League final defeat to PSG.

He said: “There is nothing to say at the moment, I am under contract here and really happy here and hopefully I can stay many years.”

Odegaard, who was substituted during the second half of the final, admitted it was painful to watch his teammates fall agonisingly short of Champions League glory.

He added: “It is tough to watch from the sides. It’s small margins and you want to win it so bad. To end up with nothing is brutal.”

The Norwegian remained optimistic about the club’s trajectory, reflecting on the progress made over two consecutive deep European runs.

He said: “Last year, we got to the semis, this year to the final and it is just a shame we couldn’t win it. Hopefully, next year we can go one step further and go on and do it.”

Arsenal have also launched their new home kit for the 2026/27 season, which is said to incorporate classic design features connected to the club’s heritage.
