The New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs are set to meet in the NBA Finals, with Jalen Brunson firmly in the spotlight heading into the series.
Brunson earned the Eastern Conference Finals MVP award after leading the Knicks to a sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in impressive fashion.
During that sweep, Brunson averaged 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 7.8 assists, demonstrating his ability to perform under significant playoff pressure.
When Brunson steps onto the court for Game 1 on Wednesday, he will immediately etch his name into the record books.
According to NBA Communications, Jalen and his father Rick Brunson are on the verge of making unprecedented NBA Finals history together.
Rick Brunson played for the Knicks in the 1999 NBA Finals, and now his son is set to do the same in 2026.
NBA Communications confirmed the milestone in a post on X, stating: “The Brunsons will become the first father-son duo to each play in the NBA Finals for the same franchise.”
Brunson has been vocal in his praise of the Knicks squad throughout their playoff run, highlighting the collective effort of his teammates.
“We have a bunch of individuals in that locker room who work really hard, and they’re very psychotic about their work and things they do,” Brunson said, according to ESPN.
He continued: “When their number’s called and when it’s time to go, they’re ready. A lot of real professionals on our roster.”
Head coach Mike Brown was largely expected to build up the team’s bench and keep starters well-rested, a strategy that has clearly paid dividends for New York.
Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
