Gabriel Speaks Out After Decisive Penalty Miss In Champions League Final Defeat Against PSG

Arsenal defender Gabriel has broken his silence on social media following his crucial penalty miss in the Champions League final against PSG.

The centre-back missed the decisive spot-kick as the French champions retained their crown after a 1-1 draw in Budapest.

On Instagram, the Brazilian wrote: “It’s painful, but I’m proud of this team and everything we achieved together this season.”

He continued: “Thank you to our incredible fans for your support every step of the way. You deserve to celebrate this journey with us and enjoy the parade today!”

Gabriel signed off his message with the words: “See you next season!!! Love, Big Gab.”

Kai Havertz had fired Arsenal into an early lead in the Hungarian capital before PSG equalised through Ousmane Dembele’s penalty.

Both Eberechi Eze and Gabriel missed their spot-kicks in the shoot-out, handing the trophy back to the French side.

Mikel Arteta’s players departed their hotel just hours after the defeat, with the Arsenal manager vowing to use the result as fuel for next season.

Arsenal will shift focus to a north London parade on Sunday to celebrate their Premier League title success, with the squad due to leave the Emirates Stadium at 2pm.

Around half a million fans were expected to line the 5.6-mile parade route, with thousands already arriving along the streets in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Arteta addressed the defeat directly, saying: “First of all, you have to go through that pain, digest it and turn it into fuel to improve and to reach a different level.”

The Arsenal manager added: “We will start to make some very important decisions if we want to reach another level. And we’re going to have to show that ambition because we are more than capable of doing it.”

Arteta finished by insisting the club must be “very, very ambitious, very fast and very smart” in their response to the European heartbreak this summer.
