Teenage San Antonio Spurs Fan Declared Brain Dead After Falling From Vehicle During Western Conference Finals Celebration

A 17-year-old San Antonio Spurs fan has been declared brain dead after suffering severe head injuries during celebrations following the team’s Game 6 victory.

The teenager was hospitalised on Thursday night after falling from a vehicle and striking his head during post-match celebrations in San Antonio.

The incident occurred after the Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 118-91, extending the Western Conference Finals to a seventh game.

San Antonio police confirmed on Friday that the boy was taken to the emergency room and was listed in critical condition following the fall.

The San Antonio Express-News reported on Saturday that the 17-year-old had suffered severe head injuries and was subsequently declared brain dead.

Police confirmed the circumstances surrounding the boy’s fall remain under active investigation as authorities work to establish exactly what happened.

The San Antonio Police Department released a public statement extending sympathy to those affected while urging fans to take responsibility for their own safety.

“The San Antonio Police Department extends our sympathy to the family, friends and loved ones affected by this tragic and preventable incident,” the statement read.

The department’s statement continued: “This serves as an important reminder that public safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage everyone celebrating to follow traffic laws, stay inside of your vehicles and follow directions from the officers who are there to keep everyone safe.”

The tragedy unfolded across a weekend in which the Spurs ultimately advanced to the NBA Finals, defeating the Thunder 111-103 in a road victory in Game 7 on Saturday night.
