Chelsea wasted no time taking a shot at Arsenal on social media following the Gunners’ painful Champions League final defeat to Paris St Germain.
Kai Havertz gave Arsenal a sixth-minute lead in Budapest before Ousmane Dembele equalised from the penalty spot in the second half.
Cristhian Mosquera’s foul on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was the pivotal moment that allowed Dembele to draw PSG level at the Puskas Arena.
Arsenal’s dreams of winning Europe’s biggest prize for the first time in their 140-year history ended in a heartbreaking 4-3 shoot-out defeat.
Both Eberechi Eze and Gabriel were off target from the spot as the Gunners were denied a historic first Champions League triumph.
Immediately after the defeat was confirmed, Chelsea posted a subtle 15-word message on X targeting their fellow Premier League rivals.
“Come and visit London’s Home of Trophies. Book your Stadium Tour at Stamford Bridge now,” the message from Chelsea read.
Chelsea later appeared to acknowledge the dig had gone too far, posting a second message that offered genuine congratulations to the north London club.
“We probably deserve another red card for that last post! But in all seriousness, congratulations to on winning the Premier League and a great run in the Champions League. Looking forward to picking up the battle again with you next season,” Chelsea said.
Arsenal will still celebrate a successful campaign, having claimed their first Premier League title in 22 years before departing Budapest in the early hours of Sunday.
Arsenal manager Arteta said: “First of all you have to go through that pain, digest it and turn it into fuel to improve and to reach a different level because it will demand a different level with the quality that is around Europe.”
Arteta also offered praise for the victorious opposition, saying: “I want to congratulate PSG, Luis in particular, because they are, in my opinion, the best team in the world.”
For PSG boss Luis Enrique, the victory marked his third Champions League title as a manager, having previously won the competition with Barcelona in 2015.
“It is a dream that has come true and I’m just so happy,” Luis Enrique said after his side retained their Champions League crown with a dramatic shootout victory.
“We were able to carry the game to Arsenal, dominate, and I am so happy because if I analyse the whole season we clearly deserve the trophy,” he added.
