Boston Celtics And Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Talks Yet To Begin Despite Ongoing Links

Multiple reports have connected the Celtics to Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, but the two clubs have not yet held direct trade discussions, according to a league source.

The source spoke to Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com, with the situation described as “fluid” amid growing speculation around the two-time MVP’s future.

Should Antetokounmpo be traded from Milwaukee, it is considered “increasingly likely” that any deal would involve multiple teams rather than a straight swap.

The Celtics reportedly showed a level of interest in Antetokounmpo ahead of the February trade deadline, though the seriousness of those conversations remains unclear.

Boston’s front office also has other roster decisions to address, including how to use their $27.7MM traded player exception on a potential center addition.

Jay King of The Athletic suggests pursuing either Mitchell Robinson or Robert Williams III using the non-taxpayer mid-level exception rather than spending the traded player exception on a contracted big man.

Robinson is expected to command a long-term agreement, while ex-Celtic Williams is seen as potentially cheaper and more open to a shorter-term arrangement.

Elsewhere in the Atlantic Division, Philadelphia’s Justin Edwards showed promising flashes in his second season but failed to establish himself as a consistent rotation player, per Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice.

Head coach Nick Nurse remains a strong supporter of the 22-year-old wing despite Edwards seeing his playing time drop considerably during the 2025/26 campaign.

Aaronson identifies becoming a more consistent three-point shooter, improving defensive rebounding, and sharpening his overall defense as key offseason priorities for Edwards.

In Brooklyn, the Nets are weighing how Keaton Wagler might fit their roster if they select the guard with the sixth overall pick in next month’s draft.

Wagler, a 19-year-old who stands 6’6″, has been widely projected to the Clippers at fifth overall due to his size at the guard position, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post.

The Illinois freshman entered college ranked outside the top 150 recruits but rapidly climbed draft boards throughout the 2025/26 season following an outstanding year.

Wagler is praised for his quick decision-making, versatility, and ability to change speeds, though scouts note he is not the most explosive athlete and did not record a single dunk last season.

“I mean, I’ve heard it my whole life, that I’m not the most athletic, not the fastest,” Wagler said. “I think all last year I showed that you don’t have to be the most athletic to score the ball or be a really good player.”

“I just find different ways to use my body, even though I’m not the strongest, but being the aggressor, using my pace [of play] and then getting into the lane,” Wagler added.
