Carmelo Anthony’s 42nd Birthday Inspires Quiz On NBA Rookies Who Averaged 20 Points Per Game

Carmelo Anthony turned 42 years old, prompting a celebration of his remarkable career and a quiz testing NBA knowledge about elite rookie scorers.

Anthony is a 10-time NBA All-Star, a 2012-13 NBA scoring champion, and a three-time Olympic Gold Medalist who built one of the most decorated careers in basketball history.

He was selected third overall by the Denver Nuggets in the 2003 NBA Draft after leading the Syracuse Orange to their first NCAA title as a freshman.

Anthony immediately justified his draft position by averaging 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game during his rookie season with Denver.

Despite that outstanding debut, he finished second in Rookie of the Year voting, losing out to a fellow 2003 draftee named LeBron James.

That rookie campaign launched a remarkable run of 14 consecutive 20-point-per-game seasons to begin his professional career.

Seven of those seasons came in Denver before Anthony was traded midseason to the New York Knicks during the 2010-11 campaign.

He went on to win the NBA scoring title with 28.7 points per game and made six straight All-Star appearances during his time in New York.

Despite those individual honours, the Knicks reached the playoffs just three times and won only one series during Anthony’s tenure with the franchise.

Away from the NBA, Anthony became the first player to win Olympic Gold three times for Team USA Basketball, also setting records in Olympic points, rebounds and games played.

The quiz challenges fans to name all 32 rookies who averaged at least 20 points per game in the Three-Point Era, which began in the 1979-80 season.

Among the players featured are Michael Jordan, who tops the list with 28.2 points per game for Chicago in 1984-85, and David Robinson, who posted 24.3 for San Antonio in 1989-90.

Other notable names on the list include Allen Iverson, Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, Larry Bird, Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant and Joel Embiid.

More recent entries include Zion Williamson, who averaged 22.5 points per game for New Orleans in 2019-20, and Victor Wembanyama, who posted 21.4 for San Antonio in 2023-24.

Cooper Flagg is the newest addition to the list, having averaged 21.0 points per game for Dallas in 2025-26 wearing jersey number 32.
