Arsenal are preparing for one of the most significant matches in their history, taking on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday.
The Gunners secured the Premier League title just days ago following their match against Crystal Palace, setting up a historic opportunity.
Victory in Budapest would see Arsenal lift the Champions League trophy for the very first time in the club’s history, making for an unforgettable season.
Before departing for Hungary, the squad were pictured working hard in the gym on the club’s official website ahead of boarding their flight to Budapest.
What stands out from those images is how happy and relaxed the players appear as they go about their preparations in training.
Having already wrapped up the Premier League crown, the squad seem to be approaching the final with confidence rather than anxiety or fear.
That positive mindset allows the players to embrace the build-up and view the occasion as an opportunity to extend an already successful season.
Had Arsenal lost the title race to Manchester City, the pressure on the Champions League final would have been significantly heavier for the squad to carry.
The Premier League triumph has taken some of that pressure away, though Arsenal face a PSG side who beat them in the semi-final of the competition last season.
Midfielder Declan Rice has offered a clear insight into how Arsenal intend to approach the showpiece occasion in Budapest this Saturday evening.
“It wasn’t meant to be (last year), but it’s [those] moments that set you up for the moments that are coming,” Rice said. “We’ll be ready.”
Rice was emphatic about the level of performance required, insisting the squad must bring maximum intensity from the very first whistle against PSG.
“You need to be on your A game to beat PSG,” he said. “You need that fuel in your belly from the first whistle, that you’re going to win this final.”
The midfielder also reflected on the sheer magnitude of the occasion, describing the Champions League final as the pinnacle of club football worldwide.
“It’s the biggest competition in football,” Rice added. “Champions League final, it gets no bigger than that.”
Rice made clear his desire to finish the season in the best possible way, leaving nothing behind on the pitch in Budapest.
“What a chance, what an opportunity,” he said. “It’ll be the last kick of club football for the season, so to go out on a high and give it absolutely everything, one last empty of the tank and give it everything you’ve got to win such a beautiful trophy with this club.”
