Chelsea are preparing for a significant summer overhaul as incoming manager Xabi Alonso looks to reshape the squad ahead of his first season in charge.
Alonso will officially begin his tenure on July 1, having been handed the task of reversing the club’s fortunes following a disappointing campaign.
The west London club finished 10th in the Premier League this season, falling short of European qualification and enduring what many considered a considerable underperformance.
The absence of European commitments next season will give Alonso additional time on the training ground to implement his footballing philosophy with his new squad.
Chelsea are already set to welcome forwards Geovany Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha, with both deals having been agreed prior to Alonso’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.
West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen has emerged as a summer transfer target, with The Guardian reporting that Chelsea are among several clubs monitoring the 29-year-old winger.
Bowen could be made available as West Ham look to generate funds following their relegation from the Premier League, adding further credibility to reported interest from Chelsea.
The winger scored nine goals and registered 11 assists this season and could provide experienced competition for Estevao on the right flank of Chelsea’s attack.
Estevao, 19, impressed during his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge but would need to grow accustomed to competing for his starting position with Bowen potentially arriving.
Signing Bowen could also have significant consequences elsewhere in the squad, with the Mirror reporting Chelsea are already prepared to part ways with Alejandro Garnacho following a difficult debut campaign.
Garnacho, 21, joined from Manchester United and struggled to make a lasting impression, with his potential departure opening the door for further squad restructuring under Alonso.
Pedro Neto registered 10 goals and 10 assists this season and is expected to retain his place, likely operating on the left wing in Alonso’s preferred attacking setup.
Cole Palmer remains central to Chelsea’s plans in attacking midfield despite contending with injuries this season that prevented him from hitting his best form.
In attack, Chelsea have been linked with Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi following an impressive breakthrough season in which he netted 13 Premier League goals.
The Daily Mail reports that Bournemouth are reluctant to sell the 19-year-old, believing he could develop into a £100m player, meaning Chelsea may need to pay a substantial fee.
Kroupi’s potential arrival would add pressure to Joao Pedro, who won Chelsea’s player of the season award after contributing 20 goals across all competitions this campaign.
However, Pedro is attracting interest from Barcelona, which could open the door for Kroupi to establish himself as the club’s first-choice striker next season.
Chelsea could offset transfer spending by selling Nicolas Jackson, who netted 11 times during a loan stint at Bayern Munich and would attract significant market interest.
Incoming Strasbourg captain Emegha offers further centre-forward cover, while Liam Delap may be encouraged to pursue a Premier League loan move to secure regular first-team football.
