West Ham Set To Cash In On Mateus Fernandes With PSG Deal Worth Up To £70m

West Ham United could receive as much as £70m from selling Mateus Fernandes to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, according to a transfer insider.

The club’s relegation from the Premier League is expected to trigger a wave of high-profile departures from the London Stadium, with Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville among those being linked with exits.

Fernandes is also among the players likely to move on, with Manchester United reportedly holding interest in the 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder.

However, Michael Carrick’s side could face serious competition from the continent in their pursuit of the youngster.

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness has suggested a bidding war could push Fernandes’ transfer fee up significantly in the coming weeks.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said: “With an auction, it could get as high as £70m, so that’s where I think the market’s going to be.”

Wyness added: “PSG is going to be very attractive for Fernandes, but he may well stay in the Premier League, and it’s who’s going to step up and pay that amount.”

He went further, stating: “I expect to see that deal [with PSG] being done as we’re speaking right now behind the scenes and announced pretty quickly in the window.”

West Ham paid just over £40m to sign Fernandes from Southampton last August, meaning a £70m sale would represent a substantial profit for the relegated club.

The Irons boss praised the youngster’s ‘fantastic season’ despite the team’s drop from the top flight, underlining how highly the player is regarded within the club.

Fernandes’ talent has also been recognised at international level, with the 21-year-old earning a call-up to a Portugal squad that boasts a stacked midfield department.

West Ham appear to be preparing for his potential departure, with reports emerging of an agreement in principle to sign Metz midfielder Alpha Toure for as little as £6m.

The club’s decision to retain faith in Nuno Espirito Santo offers some stability as they plan for life in the Championship, though key assets are still expected to leave.

While Fernandes’ exit would be a significant blow, the London Stadium hierarchy looks well-placed to command a major fee if PSG’s interest translates into a formal offer.
