Aston Villa current success comes at a disappointing cost for the fans

Aston Villa’s success this season has apparently come with a price — one that could disappoint many supporters.

The Villans have finally ended their 30-year wait for major silverware after winning the Europa League. Under Unai Emery, the club has made remarkable progress by returning to European competition and qualifying for the Champions League for the second time in three years. It marks a significant achievement for a club that only returned to the Premier League in 2019.

However, that success has not come without consequences. Aston Villa have reportedly increased ticket prices again ahead of the new season for both domestic and European fixtures. It marks the fifth consecutive rise in five years.

According to a report from Birmingham World, the decision has not gone down well with sections of the fanbase.

“Villa’s success on the pitch under Unai Emery has run alongside frustration off it from supporters at continued cost increases, with previous pleas from fan groups for a freeze on prices ignored.”

The Rise

The latest ticket price increase affects almost every category, including single-match tickets, season tickets, and Champions League fixtures. Prices have risen by up to five per cent across the board. Champions League match tickets next season will also cost five per cent more than they did during the 2024/25 campaign.

Season ticket prices for adults in the 2026/27 season now range from £703 to £997.05, covering all 19 Premier League home matches. Meanwhile, non-season-ticket prices for Champions League games range between £89.50 and £99.

Supporters can also purchase a bundle package covering 23 home games — 19 Premier League matches and four Champions League fixtures. The most expensive package, located in Zone 1, costs £1,297.50. The bundle offers around a 10 per cent saving compared to buying tickets separately, with Champions League matches effectively costing £75 each.

Family package prices have also increased, rising from £1,615 to £1,691. For domestic cup matches, ticket prices are set at £25 for adults, £20 for over-66s, under-21s, and armed forces personnel, and £10 for under-18s. More detailed information regarding ticket pricing is available on avfc.co.uk.

The Reason Behind the Increase

The reason behind Villa’s rising ticket prices is largely linked to the club’s plans to redevelop Villa Park and increase the stadium’s capacity beyond 50,000. Next season will mark the beginning of the project, starting with the closure of the North Stand as part of the expansion process.

Alongside the stadium investment, the club has also pointed to improvements in the overall matchday experience as justification for the increase. In addition, Villa must continue complying with UEFA and Premier League financial regulations while also boosting revenue to support Emery’s ambitions of building a competitive squad.

Since 2024, Aston Villa have invested around £6 million into several projects around Villa Park. These include concourse redecorations, additional kiosks and bars in the Trinity Road Upper and Doug Ellis Upper stands, renovations to toilet facilities in the Doug Ellis Stand, Trinity Road Stand, and Holte End, as well as the replacement of all seats throughout the stadium.
