Manchester United are refusing to give up their pursuit of Elliot Anderson, with the transfer race for the Nottingham Forest midfielder intensifying this summer.
The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has impressed at Nottingham Forest and has been identified as a potential replacement for Casemiro at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are looking for a player capable of protecting the defence and winning the ball back in the middle of the park.
Anderson has demonstrated his quality at Nottingham Forest, with both Manchester clubs now firmly in the running to secure his signature this transfer window.
Manchester City are reportedly the frontrunners in the race, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealing that City have already made approaches to the player.
Romano stated on his YouTube channel: “Don’t forget that Manchester City also keep pushing to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.”
Romano also acknowledged United’s continued interest, saying: “They are aware of Manchester United still calling and calling, but Manchester City are still pushing.”
The transfer journalist had previously tipped City as favourites, noting: “I told you in March that they have always been favourites to sign Elliot Anderson.”
Romano added that City’s interest has continued beyond the Guardiola era: “It’s not only with Guardiola. Now with Maresca, City are still going for him. Let’s see what happens with Nottingham Forest, with Man Utd still trying and calling.”
Romano also outlined the strength of City’s offer, stating they “want to offer a really important contract to the player” and “believe they can really tempt Elliot Anderson.”
Manchester City’s need for midfield depth has grown following injury problems suffered by Rodri, increasing the club’s desire to bring in a specialist defensive midfielder.
Anderson will reportedly want to compete for trophies at the highest level, with both Manchester clubs able to offer Champions League football in the coming season.
