Aston Villa transfer business could include a move for a Bundesliga star as they continue to identify fresh targets ahead of next season.
The 2025/26 campaign is nearing its end, and most teams have already discovered their fate for next season — whether it be competing in Europe, remaining focused solely on domestic football, or facing relegation to a lower division. However, for some players, their future could take a very different turn.
In the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich have continued their dominance at the top, while Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and Stuttgart have remained in the fight for Champions League places. Meanwhile, Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen are set for Europa League football, with SC Freiburg securing a Conference League berth.
At the other end of the table, FC St. Pauli and Heidenheim are set to drop into Bundesliga 2 after finishing in the bottom two. However, one key player from Heidenheim, Arijon Ibrahimovic, may not have to play in the second tier as he is expected to return to his parent club. Even more interestingly, he could be heading to England.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, several Premier League clubs are monitoring him closely.
“Aston Villa is among one of the Premier League teams which have all carried out extensive scouting work on the 20-year-old following his impressive loan spell with Heidenheim this season.”
The German youngster has been on loan at FC Heidenheim this season. Although he was unable to help them avoid relegation, Ibrahimovic still made a solid contribution with two goals and five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.
The 20-year-old is mainly deployed as a winger on either flank, but he can also operate as an attacking midfielder or in the number 10 role. According to scouting reports, he has shown intelligence, composure in possession, and sharp movement.
Based on FotMob data, Ibrahimovic’s attacking numbers have also stood out. His xG (expected goals) is 6.31, while his xA (expected assists) stands at 6.30. His passing success rate is 72.1 per cent, and his long-ball accuracy is 52.5 per cent. He has also contributed defensively, making 82 defensive actions this season, including 34 tackles, 23 interceptions, and 20 clearances.
The Nuremberg-born midfielder is still under contract with Bayern Munich until the summer of 2027. However, the Bavarian giants do not yet appear to see him as part of their first-team plans or guarantee him regular minutes next season.
As a result, another loan move could be on the cards. Ibrahimovic has already been loaned out three times, including spells with Serie A sides Frosinone and Lazio before joining Heidenheim. A move to the Premier League could be an appealing option, and Aston Villa may represent an ideal destination given their Champions League ambitions and Emery’s reputation for developing young talent.
Other potential suitors such as Crystal Palace, Fulham, Brighton, and Brentford may also have to work hard to convince him, especially if they fail to secure European football.
His current market value is around £5 million. If Emery is impressed enough, Villa could consider making a permanent move. His versatility could prove valuable over the long term and during demanding periods of the season, making him a useful part of the squad rebuild Emery appears to be planning.
