Manchester City v Aston Villa: Team News, predicted line up, match preview

Aston Villa are set to travel to Manchester City to take on them in the last game of the season on Sunday afternoon.

Aston Villa’s mission this season is finally accomplished. They have sealed the UEFA Champions League spot and ended their title-drought with their victorious campaign in Europa League. What’s more surprising is how Vila have been able to do it before the last game of the Premier League.

Unai Emery’s men are sitting fourth with 62 points, three points clear of Liverpool, with Bournemouth, Brighton and Chelsea behind them. The Reds could still retake the fourth position, should they win over Brentford and Villa suffer loss.Yet, it would not matter much since they have already had a UCL ticket in hand.

This match would also mean more for their opposition to pay tribute to their manager, Pep Guardiola, who has decided to leave at the end of the season. There is nothing more important than playing their last home game by displaying the football he created for domination in the last 10 years.

Thus, Villa might also do the same to respect their fans. The win is not the main goal but to entertain the fans, including their own with some attractive football to watch with possible goals galore.

Team News

The Lions are still without Boubacar Kamara due to his injury, plus fitness issue for Alysson Franco Santos. The most recent injury is Emi Martinez with his broken finger prior to the Europa League final on Wednesday. The Argentine is expected to be rested alongside the previous two names.

Thus, Marco Bizot is likely chosen between the sticks. Then at the backline, Pau Torres, Ian Maatsen, Tyrone Mings and Andres Garcia will get a nod. Emery would probably rest Ezri Konsa, Matty Cash and Lucas Digne who have featured literally in almost every of their games this season.

In the midfield, the likes of Lamare Bogarde and Ross Barkley could be given a chance to be the double pivot whereas Douglas Luiz can be deployed  as number 8 or number 10. On both wings, Harvey Eliot and Jadon Sancho might be fielded as farewell before returning to their parent club with Tammy Abraham to lead the line. The likes of Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Amadou Onana, Ollie Watkins and the skipper John McGinn could be sidelined due to their inclusion in their country’s FIFA World Cup squad. They deserve a rest before playing for the quandrennial tournament in North America next month.
