Aston Villa making approach to sign the unwanted Serie A star for summer transfer

Aston Villa are currently making a move to sign the unwanted Serie A star for the summer transfer due to his unfortunate situation.

Aston Villa transfer business is currently moving forward to hold talks about the possibility of signing the Macedonian international who has been unfortunately unwanted by his clubs next season, both his current team and his parent club, Eljif Elmas. According to a report in Tuttomercatoweb, Unai Emery’s side are quite serious about their plan on securing his move.

“Aston Villa have already conducted an enquiry and are ready to delve deeper into the matter once the season is over.”

His contract situation

The 26-year-old midfielder is currently playing for Napoli, his former club where he came to prominence. He was part of the Southern Italy side from 2019 to 2024 before plying his trade to Germany to join RB Leipzig. Elmas contributed well when Il Partenopei won Coppa Italia 2020 and the league in 2023.

Unfortunately, his spell with the Bundesliga side did not go well. He has been loaned out twice so far. The first was to Torino in the second half of the 2024/25 season. Last summer he returned to Napoli for another loan. In his second stint in Sao Paulo, he remains the key man in the team by featuring in 43 games, netting once and setting up four times.

Antonio Conte’s side could activate his buyout option for just £14.72 million. Yet, they do not seem to be interested in re-signing him permanently, as they thought the price tag is still too high. Meanwhile, his parent club, RB Leipzig, does not see him as part of the team’s plan, which surely leaves him in limbo.

Therefore, The Lions and The Black Cats are both poised to pounce on his signature. His price tag is not an issue for the Premier League teams. Yet, Villa could be a more interesting destination for Elmas, as they have sealed one spot in the UCL next campaign and perhaps a chance to win more titles in his career than Sunderland. They might be one of the most improved teams since their promotion to the top flight. Nevertheless, the Midlands side is still the better option for him.

Perfect fit for Aston Villa

Elmas is the kind of player Emery is looking for to add to the squad depth. His versatility and experience playing in different major leagues plus his golden age, as he is still 26 years old, would benefit his team in the long run. He can be part of the squad rebuilding and can be utilised well during the critical times.

The midfielder with 77 international caps can operate as a left winger, a defensive midfielder, and in the number 6 and number 10 roles. So far, Elmas has contributed one goal and four assists in all competitions this season for Il Partenopei.

Based on the data in FotMob, Elmas has a fairly high defensive contribution, up to 55, including 24 tackles, 19 clearances and 7 blocks this season. His successful dribbles are about 57.1%, whereas his winning duel is 48.1 %. His successful passes are up to 89 % too, meaning that he can contribute well in the attacking build-up.duels are 48.1%.
