Crysencio Summerville Faces Summer Exit From West Ham as Premier League Rivals Circle

West Ham United are bracing for a wave of formal offers for Crysencio Summerville this summer, with the 24-year-old Dutch winger described by sources as being in “huge demand” despite the club’s desperate battle against relegation in the final weeks of the season.

Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have been most prominently linked with a move, according to Football Insider, while several other unnamed Premier League clubs have made their interest known through intermediaries. The club paid around £25 million to sign Summerville from Leeds United in 2024 and would expect to turn a profit regardless of which division they occupy next season.

Summerville’s form across 2026 has been the primary driver of the interest. He scored five Premier League goals since January in a side that had been battered all season, registering 0.5 goals per 90 minutes across that period in a team that rarely dominated possession.

His underlying numbers, including 0.24 expected assists and 1.24 chances created per 90 minutes, suggest his output has been suppressed by poor teammates finishing rather than a lack of quality in his own delivery. For a data-driven recruitment market, those numbers are highly attractive.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown explained the structural reality bluntly when speaking to Football Insider, saying: “West Ham don’t want to lose Summerville, but if they go down, it’ll be a real uphill task to keep hold of him. He’s been one of West Ham’s standout players this season. There’ll be a lot of Premier League clubs looking at the tricky winger and hoping that he could be snapped up as they capitalise of West Ham’s potential relegation. West Ham know the vultures will be circling for their best players if they do suffer relegation, and Summerville is one of those who is in huge demand.”

Tottenham’s interest is the most developed among the linked clubs, with Football Insider reporting on May 9 that Spurs could move for Summerville in the event that they survive at West Ham’s direct expense. The irony of the two clubs being locked in a survival battle while one pursues the other’s best player adds a layer of complexity. Tottenham’s longer-term admiration for Summerville stretches back to January, when their enquiries were rebuffed.

Aston Villa’s interest reflects the club’s ongoing search for wide attacking depth. The squad has relied heavily on Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins in forward areas, and Summerville’s ability to operate across either flank would give Unai Emery far more flexibility. Villa are well placed to secure Champions League football, which would make them an attractive destination for a player looking to step up in class.

Leeds United retain a sell-on clause in the deal that could entitle them to a percentage of any profit West Ham generate above the original purchase price. That financial wrinkle adds complexity to negotiations but will not deter clubs whose interest is genuine. Summerville’s contract runs until 2029, giving West Ham a degree of control regardless of their division, though it is widely understood that the player himself has no desire to compete in the Championship.
