Burnley v Aston Villa: Team News, predicted line up, match preview

Aston Villa are bound to visit Burnley for their upcoming game in the Premier League this Sunday.

Aston Villa are heading for their next vital match in their mission to seal the Champions League berth. They are playing against the already relegated side, Burnley, on Sunday at Turf Moor. It is their huge opportunity to at least guarantee their spot in the European top-flight competition next season, as their next opposition is literally the least challenging opponent compared to their remaining two.

The Clarets are currently only led by interim manager Mike Jackson. They have been officially relegated and been on the negative trend. Martin Dubravka and Co have been winless in the past eleven games.

 A must-win game

The next outing at Turf Moor is undoubtedly the must-win game for Unai Emery’s men. A three-point win would be priceless for their position in the standings. With 61 points in hand, they could easily secure the Champions League berth. However, things are getting tricky after Bournemouth picked up a narrow win in Craven Cottage

Villa are currently in fifth with 58 points, while the Cherries are now trailing three points behind them in sixth place. A win against Burnley would not yet secure their UCL spot. The Lions now need at least one more point to keep them safe.

Bournemouth can only collect maximum 61 points if they managed to beat their last two difficult oppositin.  They are Manchester City, which is still in the title race and Nottingham Forest in the final game. Andoni Iraola’s men are now hoping Unai Emery’s men slip or stumble.

If Villa can only share spoils on Sunday, then it would be equal to a defeat, as it would hand over the chance for The Cherries to topple them if they managed to win the remaining two matches. Ollie Watkins and Co. would have to rely on winning the Europa League as the only path to the Champions League next season. No wonder that Unai Emery expects his team to target a triumphant victory in this game on the road.

Team News

Villa will still be without Amadou Onana, Boubacar Kamara and Alysson Franco. Yet, Emery is no longer concerned about the defensive midfielder crisis, as he has found the solution.

His gamble on deploying Victor Lindelof to fill the void last Thursday worked well. Therefore, he is likely to get the nod in the starting XI again. Ross Barkley could be sidelined due to his woeful form against Spurs last week.

Considering their target for maximum points, Villa are likely to field their best team. Emiliano Martinez is the one still between the sticks. Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres are in the heart of their backline, while Matty Cash and Lucas Digne are on the flank. Youri Tielemans is accompanied by Lindelof, with Emi Buendia given the freer role as number 10 with John McGinn and Morgan Rogers operating wide.

Meanwhile, Burnley will be without four players in this clash. Those who are ruled out for this game include their regular names in the lineup, Josh Cullen and Axel Tuenzebe.
