Silverstone Offers to Host Second 2026 Formula One Race Amid F1 Schedule Uncertainty

Silverstone has put itself forward as a contingency venue for an additional Formula One race in 2026 should the ongoing disruption to the calendar caused by the Middle East conflict require further schedule changes later in the season.

Silverstone chief executive Stuart Pringle confirmed the circuit had already communicated its offer directly to Formula One management, citing the venue’s experience stepping in during the pandemic affected 2020 season when it hosted back to back grands prix to help the sport complete its revised calendar.

Pringle said the offer had been made and Formula One knew where Silverstone stood, adding that while numerous practicalities would need to be considered, the circuit could move quickly if called upon.

The Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix were among the races already cancelled from the 2026 schedule due to the regional conflict, with the FIA subsequently confirming replacement events to fill those gaps in the calendar.

Formula One’s chief corporate relations officer Liam Parker acknowledged the fluid and dynamic nature of the current situation, noting that forecasting what the calendar would look like in September and October remained extremely difficult given the pace at which conditions were changing on a daily basis.

Parker stressed that while there were headaches and logistical complexities to navigate, the sport was not yet facing what he described as existential threats to the remainder of the season, indicating Formula One remained operational and commercially stable despite the disruption.

Pringle added that he normally prided himself on running a fully committed diary with no spare windows, but acknowledged that everything was moveable in a crisis, a statement that reflected the circuit’s genuine willingness to act at short notice.

Whether Formula One accepts the offer will depend on developments in the Middle East and the extent to which further races face cancellation in the second half of the season.

Silverstone already holds the British Grand Prix on the calendar and would require significant logistical coordination to accommodate a second race within the same season.
