Chelsea Open to Selling Alejandro Garnacho After £40 Million Man Utd Transfer

Chelsea are prepared to offload winger Alejandro Garnacho in this summer’s transfer window after the 21 year old Argentine failed to establish himself during a disappointing first campaign at Stamford Bridge following his £40 million arrival from Manchester United.

Garnacho joined the Blues on Transfer Deadline Day last summer and managed just one Premier League goal in 22 appearances, with a further seven contributions in cup competitions coming largely against lower division opposition, leaving the overall return well short of expectations for a player bought to add regular attacking threat.

The Sun reported that Chelsea’s hierarchy have decided they are open to a sale, with manager Liam Rosenior having shown a clear preference for Pedro Neto on the left flank and the imminent arrival of Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP in July set to tighten competition further for wide positions.

Rosenior subsequently pushed back on the reports when asked directly, questioning the source of the story and emphasising that Garnacho had special qualities when playing with confidence and in good form, adding that his job was to help the player reach his potential.

Garnacho himself has struck a defiant tone, acknowledging that his first season has been difficult while insisting there is far more to come and attributing some of his struggles to having joined two months after the rest of the squad without a pre-season.

The player’s Estimated Transfer Value currently stands at approximately €59.9 million according to analytics firm SciSports, comfortably above the fee Chelsea paid to sign him, meaning the club would expect to at least break even on any deal.

Juventus and Napoli, both of whom were interested in Garnacho before his move to London, are expected to be among the clubs to re-emerge as potential suitors should Chelsea formally make him available.

Manchester United, where he came through the academy and made his professional debut at 17, have no interest in a buyback, according to reports.

Chelsea are also expected to pursue at least one additional wide forward this summer regardless of Garnacho’s situation, with Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye and Brentford’s Kevin Schade among the names linked with a move to west London.
