Aston Villa transfer appears to include the plan of signing Unai Emery’s ex-player in the summer.
Aston Villa transfer targets next summer might still include the striker they once aimed at last summer before moving to the Bundesliga on loan. He is none other than Unai Emery’s former striker, Nicolas Jackson.
According to the report from Sportboom, the Lions are racing against Newcastle United to sign the Senegalese international who is currently playing for Bayern Munich. Jackson has been struggling to simply earn regular minutes with the Bavarian side as Harry Kane remains the first choice.
The Banjul-born forward is unlikely to get his permanent move to Germany since Die Roten mainly uses him as Kane’s deputy. He is still under contract with Chelsea until 2033, but his parent club would not mind releasing him once his price tag is met next summer.
The 24-year-old striker does not lack potential suitors. Villa and the Magpies seem to be leading the race for the frontman whose current price tag is reportedly £60 million. Returning to Chelsea is on the cards too, Fabrizio Romano revealed via his official account in X. He could be reintegrated into the first team, especially if their newly appointed boss is keen on including him in his plan.
His stint in Bayern is not exactly disappointing. Based on his contribution, he has made 30 appearances, scored 10 goals and providing four assists. Those include one goal and one assist when he led the line as Bayern ran rampant against Atalanta in a 6-1 triumph in the first leg of the Champions League’s round of 16 at Bergamo.
Jackson also netted three goals in a row in the last Bundesliga games, including one goal when he helped Vincent Kompany’s men smash VfB Stuttgart 4-2 two weeks ago. Nevertheless, such does not convince the Bavarian side enough to sign him permanently.
It remains to be seen if Villa would eventually sign him permanently. One thing for sure, Emery would be pleased should that happen, as they have worked together in Villarreal. Jackson would be keen on playing in his team again, as he can play in the continental competition again rather than for Newcastle, which will not be featuring in the European competition at all next season.
Jackson is also still young but already more experienced than Tammy Abraham at the higher level. He can be the long-term successor for Ollie Watkins too. The only obstacle would be meeting his high price tag. They could negotiate a move for him via another loan deal, which is more realistic considering Villa’s financial situation.
