Chris Gotterup has a pretty unique setup when it comes to equipment and that was to his benefit this week at the Sony Open.
Gotterup is sponsored by Bridgestone, which only has irons and golf balls on the PGA Tour, which makes the now-three-time PGA Tour winner free to fill out the rest of his bag as he pleases.
And on Sunday, Gotterup put on a show with his Ping G440 LST driver on his way to a come-from-behind victory at Waialae Country Club.
For the week, Gotterup led the field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, including picking up more than 1.3 shots during the final round. That included his 190 mph missile off the 503-yard par-4 13th tee, which cut the corner of the dog-leg and left him just 153 yards after the 342-yard bomb. That set up his penultimate birdie and opened up a three-shot lead with five holes to play.

Gotterup plays the Ping G440 LST 7.5˚ lofted head. While there’s much hype around Ping’s recently released G440 K, the 440 LST still offers high-speed players like Gotterup an awesome platform to swing as hard as they like and still get forgiveness if they miss the center of the face.
The 7.5˚ lofted head was originally a Tour-only head before Ping added it to the rest of the G440 lineup for players who struggle with excessive spin.
Gotterup plays his G440 LST with a Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 70 TX shaft in it.
