Manager Unai Emery has named his team for Aston Villa’s Premier League match against Everton this afternoon.
Villa would close the gap between them and Premier League leaders Arsenal to four points with a win and would also go into second, not to mention ten points clear of fourth – that is, lest we forget, the real quiz.
Emery has made three changes from Villa’s FA Cup third round win against Tottenham Hotspur, including the reintroduction of goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez after an injury.
Marco Bizot drops to the bench, where he’s joined by another goalkeeper, James Wright, and Africa Cup of Nations returnee Evann Guessand.
Ollie Watkins is in for Donyell Malen, who left for Roma on an initial loan in the week, while the injury sustained by Boubacar Kamara at Spurs brings Youri Tielemans into the starting eleven alongside fellow midfield player Lamare Bogarde.
Attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers is in from the start, which means he will make his 100th appearance for Villa this afternoon.
For a reported fee of £8 million rising to £15 million, Rogers has been an incredible signing for Villa. He’s thriving under Emery, having a big impact in important matches, and emerging as one of the foremost talents in Premier League football.
What a player, and now ton-up for the mighty claret and blue boys too.
Starting XI: Martínez, Cash, Konsa, Torres, Maatsen, Bogarde, Tielemans, McGinn, Buendía, Watkins
Substitutes: Bizot, Wright, Lindelöf, Digne, García, Mings, Hemmings, Guessand, Jimoh-Aloba
