Meta has halted plans to expand its Ray-Ban Display smart glasses internationally after demand in the United States far exceeded initial expectations.
The company had intended to launch the augmented reality eyewear in markets including the UK, France, Italy and Canada early this year.
Instead, Meta said it will prioritize fulfilling U.S. orders while reassessing its approach to international availability.
The decision reflects severe supply constraints for what Meta described as a “first-of-its-kind product.”
“Since launching last fall, we’ve seen an overwhelming amount of interest, and as a result, product waitlists now extend well into 2026,” Meta said in a blog post.
The Ray-Ban Meta glasses were developed in partnership with eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica and combine fashion design with AI-powered features.
Wearers can take photos, stream audio content and interact with a built-in AI assistant using voice commands.
EssilorLuxottica said last year it would accelerate production capacity in response to surging demand for smart glasses.
Meta sold approximately 15,000 units of the Ray-Ban Display glasses during its first quarter of sales.
That performance translated into an estimated six percent market share within the smart glasses category, according to industry analysts.
Observers say the figures highlight strong early traction despite limited availability and relatively modest shipment volumes.
The rapid sell-through has reinforced concerns about scaling manufacturing quickly enough to support a broader rollout.
Meta also used the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to unveil new capabilities for both the glasses and its Neural Band wrist device.
One addition is a teleprompter-style feature that allows users to read notes within the glasses display.
Scrolling and navigation can be controlled through subtle wrist movements using the Neural Band.
The company also expanded pedestrian navigation features to four additional U.S. cities.
Denver, Las Vegas, Portland and Salt Lake City were added, bringing total coverage to 32 cities.
