European champions plotting Morgan Rogers move but Chelsea are in the driving seat for Aston Villa star: report

Paris Saint-Germain are among the teams interested in signing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa but face stiff competition in the form of Premier League side Chelsea.

Rogers was frequently linked with a transfer away from Villa Park throughout the summer transfer window but signed a new contract at Villa less than a year ago.

The 23-year-old has four-and-a-half years left on his deal but is widely expected to be seen by Villa as a player whose ambitions will eventually push him towards regular Champions League football for the kind of fee that would get the club back on track when it comes to Premier League and UEFA financial regulations.

Rogers’ best two performances this season have come in an England shirt, with his club form miles short of his best. Nevertheless, his stock remains high and there could be genuine competition for his signature next summer among some of the wealthiest clubs in the game.

According to reporting by Caught Offside, sources with some sort of proximity to the situation behind the scenes have indicated that Premier League rivals Chelsea, one of the clubs most heavily linked with him in the summer, are frontrunners – but they’re being chased.

“The London club have identified him as a key target in their 2026 squad planning, aiming to reinforce their attacking midfield options,” reports Caught Offside.

“The technical staff believe Rogers is well-suited to both the intensity of the Premier League and the competitive demands of European football. Chelsea’s interest isn’t just short-term; they’re also factoring in his long-term development potential.”

PSG ‘closely monitoring’ Rogers

Chelsea were just one of the clubs reportedly keen on the ex-Middlesbrough forward in the summer, with Premier League champions Liverpool, Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur and former club Manchester City also linked.

The winners of the Champions League are in the picture too. Caught Offside reports: “Paris Saint-Germain, impressed by Rogers’ performance against them last season, have been closely monitoring him ever since. The French powerhouse is reportedly preparing for a possible move.”

The England international played all 180 minutes and more as Villa were beaten by PSG in the quarter-finals of last season’s Champions League, scoring Villa’s goal at the Parc des Princes in a 3-1 defeat in the first leg.

Unai Emery‘s new club defeated his old one thanks to a blistering second-half revival at Villa Park but the 3-2 scoreline on the night wasn’t enough to take Villa through on aggregate.

Rogers, clearly, caught the eye. It’s claimed that Villa will ask for £80 million for him, which would represent a tremendous profit on their books next summer.
