Aston Villa have been tipped to pursue an interest in Leicester City’s exciting Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu.
Villa have reportedly been monitoring the 21-year-old, who featured for the Foxes against Sheffield Wednesday in their Championship opener last Sunday.
With right-winger Leon Bailey seemingly on the way out of Villa Park, Villa manager Unai Emery will be keen to strengthen his options in the positions off striker Ollie Watkins.
Fatawu can play on the outside or operate as an inverted winger from the right, cutting inside onto his left foot. With an estimated price tag around the £10 million mark, Villa have been advised to make a deal happen if Bailey does indeed depart.
The Ghana international is regarded as one of the most promising wingers in the game and has explosive potential, albeit without a great deal of experience at the top level. If Leicester do end up selling him, the buying club will see Fatawu as an investment.
Tamale-born Fatawu joined Leicester from Sporting CP in 2023. He’d mainly featured in the B team for the Lisbon club but broke through into the first team before getting his move to the East Midlands.
Fatawu rose to prominence in the 2023/24 season, playing a key role in Leicester’s promotion to the Premier League and contributing six goals and 13 assists in 40 matches.
However, upon Leicester’s return to the top flight, his form dipped. He managed just two assists before suffering a cruciate ligament injury in November, which ruled him out for the rest of the 2024/25 season.
Arguably, his form dipped in the early months in the top flight under Steve Cooper even before a cruciate ligament injury in November that ended his 2024/25 season prematurely.
The Villans have already been linked in this summer transfer window with Bilal El Khannouss, Fatawu’s teammate and left-sided counterpart. He made more of an impression in the Premier League last season, playing 34 times in all competitions.
While Fatawu usually plays on the right, Khannouss is more often deployed on the left or in an attacking midfield role. As one of the most highly rated players from the relegated sides, the 22-cap Morocco international has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.
