Mbeumo Deal Still In The Balance As United And Brentford Remain Apart

Manchester United fans hoping for a swift resolution in the Bryan Mbeumo saga may have to remain patient, with David Ornstein stating that a significant gap remains between the Red Devils and Brentford in their ongoing negotiations. United had earmarked the Cameroon international as their second major summer signing following the arrival of Matheus Cunha. Mbeumo, for his part, had made it clear that Old Trafford was his preferred destination, turning down approaches from other clubs, including Tottenham, where he could have linked up again with former manager Thomas Frank.

While personal terms between Mbeumo and United have been in place for some time, the club have struggled to find common ground with Brentford. According to Ornstein, who shared his update via The Athletic, the two parties are still far apart in terms of their valuations, with United’s most recent proposals falling several million short of the asking price. He added that no major progress had been made in recent weeks.

This will come as a frustration to INEOS, who have been engaged in these talks for over a month. Although recent reports hinted at a breakthrough, Ornstein cautioned that such claims may be premature and that a resolution is not yet in sight. With United also looking to strengthen in midfield and at centre-forward, a decision will likely be required soon as to whether they continue pursuing Mbeumo or shift their attention elsewhere.

Inter Milan Drop Out Of Hojlund Chase

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has reportedly lost one of his most serious suitors this summer, with Inter Milan no longer pursuing the Danish forward. Hojlund endured a disappointing season at Old Trafford, finding the net just four times in the Premier League as United suffered one of their worst league finishes in modern history. His performances were widely criticised, with Stan Collymore describing him as a “shattered” player in his CaughtOffside column. Despite these struggles, the 22-year-old remained of interest to several Serie A sides, thanks largely to his impressive form during his short stint at Atalanta. Juventus and Napoli were said to be monitoring him, while Inter Milan appeared to be leading the race, having made contact with both the club and the player’s representatives.

However, Laurie Whitwell has reported for The Athletic that Inter have now stepped away from the negotiations. The club recently brought in Ange-Yoan Bonny from Parma and already have several attacking options in place, including Marcus Thuram, Lautaro Martinez and Mehdi Taremi. With plans to retain 19-year-old Francesco Pio Esposito as well, Inter no longer see the need for another forward.

This development might hinder United’s efforts to raise funds through player sales. Although Hojlund is not among the five players considered surplus to requirements under Ruben Amorim, sources believe that INEOS would be open to selling him if the right offer arrived, with the aim of reinvesting in a more clinical striker. There is still some interest in Hojlund within Italy, with Roma recently emerging as a potential destination. A reunion with former Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini could appeal to the striker, offering both a fresh start and a system more suited to his strengths.
