Travelers Championship Subpar picks: Favorite bets of the week

You can bet on this: Birdies will come in bunches this week.

After last week’s bloodletting at Oakmont, where winner J.J. Spaun was the only player to finish under par, the Tour moves to Connecticut and the Travelers Championship, which kicks off Thursday at TPC River Highlands.

TPC River Highlands is no Oakmont. The winner will go low. But the stakes still be high. The Travelers is a Signature Event.

“After just an ass-whooping of a major, saddle back up,” Colt Knost said on the latest episode of GOLF’s Subpar podcast.

“I don’t love it,” co-host Drew Stoltz replied. “But I hate it less than (a Signature Event) the week before a major.”

The co-hosts went on to share their feelings on the no-let-up schedule along with their sense of who stands to shine.

Robert MacIntyre of Scotland plays his shot from the fifth tee during the final round of the 125th U.S. OPEN at Oakmont Country Club on June 15, 2025 in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.

For his Fanatics Sportsbook bet of the week, Knost picked a man on the rebound: Sepp Straka, who missed the cut at the Oakmont. Knost took him to top 10 (+280).

“He’s missed the cut three times this year,” Knost said. “Every time he comes back after a missed cut, his worst finish is T13. So he bounces back.”

What’s more, Knost noted, River Highlands suits Straka’s game.

“This golf course is not long, and he’s not the longest,” Knost said. “He’s played phenomenal this year.”

For his pick, Stoltz went with a guy who was in the mix at Oakmont: Cameron Young to finish in the top 20 (+165).

“Talent-wise, he’s a monster. Hasn’t had the results most people expect from this guy,” Stoltz said. But that’s begun to change.

In recent weeks, Young has been rounding into form, starting with a T25 at the Memorial, which he backed up with consecutive T4s at the RBC Canadian Open and the U.S. Open.

Scottie Scheffler is the betting favorite to win the Travelers, with +300 odds. Rory McIlroy (+1400), Collin Morikawa (+1600), Xander Schauffele (+1600) and Ludvig Aberg (+2500) round out the top five.
