Here's the 3-wood Ryan Fox used for shot of his life at RBC Canadian Open

The RBC Canadian Open was in the midst of one of the sleepiest PGA Tour playoffs in recent memory.

Then Ryan Fox gave it some juice.

From 258 yards, Fox hit a 3-wood that soared over 100 feet into the air and landed softly on the 18th green at TPC Toronto just seven feet from the cup.

Fox went on to a two-putt and capped off his second PGA Tour victory of the year — but it was the clutch 3-wood that got it done.

Ryan Fox makes birdie on the fourth playoff hole at RBC Canadian Open

In the playoff at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open, Ryan Fox makes birdie on the par-5 4th playoff hole.

“It’s the best shot I’ve ever hit in my life,” Fox said afterward. “There’s nothing close to that.”

The 3-wood Fox plays is really a 4-wood with 16.5 degrees of loft; it’s a new addition to the bag this season as part of Srixon’s new ZXi metalwoods lineup. The ZXi line has just one fairway wood option, but GOLF’s ClubTest player testing showed it was one of the most forgiving options on the market.

The ZXi line features a new I-Flex face that has a thinner center area with thicker heel and toe regions, resulting in greater energy transfer for longer shots. ZXi fairway woods are also the first Srixon fairway woods with 1.5 degrees of hosel adjustability to tweak the loft, lie and face angle.

Fox’s choice to use a 4-wood is also one that a lot of amateurs can copy. For many players, especially low launchers of the ball, a 4-wood can fly farther than a 3-wood thanks to the added loft. For others, potentially even a 5-wood will go farther than both.

It’s just another example of how loft can be your friend — and if a PGA Tour winner is taking advantage of that, why shouldn’t you, too?
