Q: Hey, Chef! What’s a fun chipping game I can practice with to build confidence for my next round? —Johnson L., Lexington, Ky
Anytime you’re looking for quick confidence around the greens, I suggest going down in loft to a 52-degree or a pitching wedge, staying about two-to-four yards off the green in the fringe. The lower loft will help you groove an efficient and slightly shorter swing than if you were to just grab your lobber.
A good game that you can play is taking one ball and hitting six shots, with the goal being to hit all six inside of eight feet. The better you get at this drill, the smaller you can make your goal. (Shhhh… Tour players aren’t looking to make every chip shot, but they are looking for each shot to end up inside of four feet.).
