£110k-a-week star who has not played in four months set for Arsenal exit

Celtic are said to be at the top of the list of teams looking to sign Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney in January.

The 27-year old has not seen much first team football in the past two seasons and is looking for a way out of the club. Tierney spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad where he managed to play 20 games in La Liga, providing two assists.

After a decent loan spell in Spain, the defender was hopeful of returning to fight for a place in the Arsenal team, but eventually accepted his place under Mikel Arteta:

“Look at the squad depth in that position now. They have Zinchenko, Timber, Tomiyasu, Kiwior. Four players can play there.

“So if I go back and it’s the same as before then I’m not silly, I know the chances are I’ll be leaving.

“But you never know in football. You get the rare case with [William] Saliba.

“Where he came back after a couple of good seasons [out on loan] but you don’t see it too often with someone who has played for four years, left, and then come back to play again.”

The gunners are reportedly looking for options to replace Tierney and Zinchenko next summer.

Scottish commentator says Kieran Tierney could return to boyhood club

Tierney has not kicked a ball since he injured his hamstring at EURO 2024 in the summer. He is yet to be named in a Premier League match day squad,

His future at the club is up in the air, but Andy Walker believes he could move soon:

“I think it might be an option, but he’ll have a number of options. He’s already been over to Spain, I think Kieran’s problem just now is he’s just too prone to injury, we all know what he can do, he was just a fabulous player for Celtic and really deserved that move to the top-flight.” He said on the Go Radio Football Show podcast.

“It worked out for him for a spell, but when you keep picking up niggling injuries, it’s really difficult to keep going and get a run of games. That’s what you want him to do, but he’ll definitely have options, Celtic being one of them.”

Walker does believe that if a club is able to manage him properly, they could have the best version of Kieran Tierney yet.

“I don’t know if he’s maybe been overplayed when he was younger, I don’t know if that’s a consideration for him. I just wish him well, I hope he can get back to a level of fitness. There’s nothing better than playing a full season, every game.

“I know that the demands are there; sometimes you can play 50/60, close to 70 games (in a season). We’ve seen that with Callum McGregor in recent years, I know there’s a lot of debate just now about an overload and a fixture schedule that’s just a bit bit too much, but for Kieran Tierney, you just want him to be available every week.”
