Arsenal Defender, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Suffers an Injury Setback

Just when I expressed my delight of Takehiro Tomiyasu returning to action after his substitute appearance in the win over Southampton, it has been reported that he has suffered a setback and is set to be out for a considerable chunk of time.

Tomiyasu has aggravated the knee injury he suffered in his cameo appearance, which is very saddening. The Japanese star’s career at Arsenal has been blighted by injuries and judging from Arsenal’s recruitment in recent season has shown that the Gunners have moved on from him.

While Ben White remains the first choice right back at Arsenal, Jurrien Timber is an adept backup and Arsenal has fielded Thomas Partey in an unorthodox right role on rare occasions. In the second half of Arsenal’s victory over Paris St. Germain, Mikel Arteta fielded Riccardo Calafiori as a right back when Timber was subbed off at half time.

Does Tomiyasu still have a future at Arsenal?

Team Talk reported that Arsenal are open to selling Tomiyasu in January, with Italian giants, AC Milan and Juventus, on the prowl for his signature. Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Bologna a couple of seasons ago, and will have no issues adapting to life in Italy, but should he leave in the next transfer window, it will be a disappointing end to an injury plagued spell at North London.

We will monitor his injury news and see how things pan out for Tomiyasu.
