Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has been a subject of discussion after England’s 2-1 loss to Greece in the Nations League. The English winger had picked up a hamstring injury in the match and further availability was a mystery to the fans.
Later, it was confirmed that Saka won’t be travelling to Helsinki with The Three Lions for their clash against Finland. This was a big shocker to both The Three Lions and Arsenal fans.
Saka was substituted in the 51st minute after he seemed a bit uncomfortable in his right leg. The 23-year-old winger had pulled his hamstring while delivering a cross.
The Englishman’s reaction wasn’t pleasing hence interim English coach Lee Carsley was forced to take precautionary measures.
Bukayo would have been close but it would have been unfair to take a risk with him. He’s a positive person and I expect him to be fine.
-Lee Carsley
The English manager emphasized the fact that it was important to take it easy probably due to the importance of the player. Saka has been a regular to the The Three Lions’ squad since 2020. He has also scored 12 goals for the national side till now.
However, there is good news for The Gunners fans as the injury doesn’t seem as serious. Arsenal is lucky to avoid another Martin Ødegaard as Saka might be back when the Premier League returns.
After further assessment with the Arsenal medical team, it was deemed that Saka might be fit enough to play against Bournemouth when the Premier League returns.
Although the winger won’t be travelling to Helsinki with the England squad, he’ll use that time to recover. Mikel Arteta will hope that the injury recovers expectedly and the 23-year-old is available when 19th October comes around.
After the win over Southampton, Mikel Arteta emphasized Saka’s need for rest. He told the reporters that the management is trying their best to keep the load under control on the player.
Yeah, there is and we have taken him off a couple of times this season. And we have to manage the load of him, but at the moment he’s in a good place.
-Mikel Arteta
Bukayo Saka has probably been the most regular for Arsenal this season. Managing his fitness and workload will be crucial if Mikel Arteta wants to use the Englishman to his full potential.
Saka’s injury against Greece hints at the excessive usage he’s been facing this season. Arteta will want to make controlled efforts to keep the winger at his peak throughout the season in order to have a chance at the league title.
