Bukayo Saka says Kai Havertz can lead Arsenal to glory

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz has been under criticism since he joined the club last season, but his form in 2024 has silenced any doubters.

13 goals in the Premier League last season, and an impressive start to this year with four goals in seven has encouraged the Arsenal faithful.

Mikel Arteta is firm in his stance that the German forward is the only player to lead the attack, and backed Havertz to score 20 goals this season.

“First of all, because he’s so good, because he wants it so much and because he’s surrounded by great players around him. The fact that he’s gone through some difficult moments just made him a better player, and a great person I think.

“He certainly has all the qualities and he certainly has the ambition to [score 20 goals a season]. In the end, scoring goals sometimes are very small details and a lot of things have to go for you, but he’s got it and his mindset has changed a lot in regards to that. He certainly has ability to do it in my opinion.”

Bukayo Saka backs Kai Havertz for success

Saka has been a leader for Arsenal this season, and has put on the captain’s armband in the absence of Martin Odegaard in the past few games. The England forward believes Kai Havertz makes the Arsenal team better.

“I’ve always thought Kai’s an unbelievable player,” he told CBS Sports. “Everyone in the dressing room did too. We’re so happy that he’s showing that. This season he has come out with even more confidence, I think he’s scored in almost every game.”

“He’s going to score a lot of goals this season. He has a really good understanding around the box, when to attack it and that’s why he gets a lot of chances and that’s why hopefully he’ll score a lot of goals.”

Despite the German’s impressive production this calendar year, Arsenal continue to be linked with strikers. Most recently, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporting Club’s Viktor Gyokeres.

Arsenal forward set to return from injury after international break

Bukayo Saka was substituted early in England’s 2-1 loss to Greece in the Nations League. After the match, Lee Carsley gave an update on the winger’s condition:

“He’s being assessed.

“In the build-up to the first goal, you could see he felt something in his leg.”

Reports around the club claim Saka’s injury is not as serious as feared, and that he will undergo a scan to assess the damage on his right hamstring.
