Colt Knost is a busy man these days. Between co-hosting GOLF’s “Subpar” with Drew Stoltz and working as an on-course analyst for CBS, the former PGA Tour pro doesn’t have many breaks in his schedule. When he’s not working, though, he’s still never far from a golf course. The former U.S. Am champ still keeps his game plenty sharp.
One of the biggest keys for Knost staying competitive (even if it is only in money games around Scottsdale, Ariz.) is playing the best equipment for his game. Recently, in a special edition of Play Smart, Knost took us through his bag to show us the clubs he games and explained how they help him play his best golf.
For the wedges, Knost goes with the Callaway Opus Wedges in 60, 54 and 50 degrees of loft. He says he likes to chip with a 60-degree around the greens, and for that he relies on the W grind.
“It has a little more bounce,” Knost says. “So it doesn’t dig as much off those tough tight lies around the greens. I love it.”
The irons Knost has been gaming lately are the Callaway Elyte Irons — and they’ve been game-changing for him as he’s getting more distance than ever.
“I went from hitting a 7-iron with an average of 165 carry to 172 [yards],” he says. “Also 10 feet higher apex with the proper spin.”

At the top end of the bag, Knost is using the Callaway Elyte 5-wood and 3-wood. With the 3-wood, the loft is a little stronger because he can generate enough spin to launch it high for shots into par-5s.
Finally, we get to Knost’s driver. For that, he trusts the Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond with 9 degrees of loft.
“Some say it’s my money-maker because of my distance off the tee,” Knost jokes. “This thing has been unbelievable.”
