Aston Villa player ratings as fans dish out 6 and 7 out of 10 for Premier League win against Spurs

Aston Villa came out of the October international break with a Premier League win against Tottenham Hotspur and fans have had their say.

Villa supporters submitted their player ratings via our AVF ratings form, which we’ll be inviting you to do via our social media throughout the 2025/26 season.

The process is simple. We’ll share a link at full time to ask fans to give every Villa player a score out of 10 – without a zero because we’re grown-ups and so are you – before adding in my own ratings from Aston Villa Review and taking an average.

These average scores will be used for Power Rankings each month and, ultimately, to crown a Player of the Season.

Spurs v Villa player ratings

Emiliano Martínez – 6.5

Villa’s goalkeeper didn’t have a great deal to do but made an important save from João Palhinha. He also distracted himself by messing with an opponent at a set piece again, flapping at the cross as a result.

Matty Cash – 7.3

I think Cash has had a really good season and played well on Sunday but 1.3 of this average rating is from one pass alone. And fair enough, I say.

Ezri Konsa – 7.3

Great to see Konsa getting a big score despite not having a great deal of eye-catching work to do. Exactly the kind of shift you need from a quality defender in an away win.

Pau Torres – 7.0

Looked at his best when carrying the ball up the pitch, which occasionally looked like a profitable route for Villa. Nice and solid defensively again.

Lucas Digne – 7.0

Like Cash, Digne’s performance wasn’t spectacular overall but his control in the biggest moment certainly was. Dealt well with being kicked from pillar to post and, with some help, mostly handled Mohammed Kudus.

Amadou Onana – 6.3

The reviews across the Villa community were mixed after Onana’s first start since August. I thought he did some things very well and served a vital physical purpose. No issue with 6.3 at all.

Boubacar Kamara – 7.0

We all talk about John McGinn being one of the best-value signings Villa have ever made. Different circumstances and wages factor in, certainly, but Kamara was brought in on a free.

John McGinn – 7.3

A captain’s performance from start to finish. A deserved high rating.

Evann Guessand – 6.0

Parts of the game passed Guessand by on Sunday but his work without the ball was as important as ever and the effect he’s had on Cash, even when he’s not actually on the pitch in front of him, should be acknowledged.

Morgan Rogers – 7.0

Started really well, caused problems, scored a fantastic goal, gave the ball away a bit and drifted out of the game a bit for spells of the second half. Rogers is back.

Donyell Malen – 5.8

Ollie Watkins’ injury and inability to start shifted Malen back to centre-forward, a position that evidently does him no favours in Unai Emery’s system.

Substitutes

Emi Buendía – 7.5 – MOTM

Brilliant attitude. Brilliant goal.

Ollie Watkins – 6.5

Took longer to get into the game than Buendía but showed what he’s about as soon as he was involved. More indirectly than the goalscorer, Watkins played a big role in the win.

Ian Maatsen – 6.0

Came on with eight minutes to go so I didn’t grade him, but you’ve gone for an average of 6.0 and fair enough.

Ross Barkley – 6.0

Barkley, another late sub, came on with the score at 2-1 and did his bit.
